Mostly Utilized
Howdy,
I’ve been working on utility shut offs/activates for the last few days. Wow, so many companies, each with their own rules. At this point I have Cable TV, Phone, Internet, Gas, Water/Sewer, Electricity, and Trash either slated to be activated or installed at the Ohio home on 3/10-3/11. I still have to contact the Locksmith when the date gets closer. I have lots of accounts set up with temporary passwords and billing that will be done via snail-mail. Once I get first billings, I’ll switch each to auto-pay.
Down here in Florida, I’ve set up shut-offs for Phone, Internet, Cable TV, Electric, Security monitoring, Termites, Orkin monthly service, Quarterly Lawn fertilizing/de-bugging with ProTek, but couldn’t do the public water yet. They only allow it within 2 weeks of shut-off. The HOA takes care of trash, so that will happen auto-magically at closing. Still need to do weekly lawn service and weekly pool service. Will do that towards end of month. They both know it is coming, but I will still send them a notice.
Truck insurance is done up in Ohio, and the home owner's policy is set, just waiting to be signed when I get there. OMG, so much cheaper, and covers so much more, and the deductible is so little, compared to down here. In fact, my truck will cost more to ensure each year than the house. And the home insurance up there is barely more than the extra I pay for Flood Insurance in Florida, while being in a NON-flood zone. That was very nice to see.
Surveyors were here yesterday to ensure the house didn’t get up in move in the last 14 years, and to make sure that even though it has gotten older, it hasn’t grown any. I was shocked by how many measurements and pictures they took. And yet, they couldn’t even find a couple of the markers in the back corners. They didn’t want to enter other’s property (especially the one with the big nasty dog!!).
I’m still tossing things to make a lighter move, and reconsidering other things. I have had my handyman do a couple dump runs (one for “hazardous” materials like cleaning supplies, used oil, etc. and one for big items like the old couch and waterbed).
Down to less than 4 weeks left in Florida. Wow, seems unreal. But looking forward to the next long drive.
Enjoy Life
