GreenHouse Update -- how does my garden grow

Howdy all,

Time for an update. Of course not too much is really happening at this point. Just trying to ride out the pandemic, and not sure who is riding whom… Quite tired of the whole thing. I want my freedom back. And on rainy/cold days, I am bored out of my mind..

On dry days, I seem to be constantly outside picking up twigs, and sweeping up leaves from the trees. And fall isn’t here yet.

I have worked on my raised bed gardening that I hope to do next spring. For now, I have “fall” plants in them, and am hoping I get to see a harvest before the frosts hit.

Since the last update, I’ve added a few things. For example, there is now a smaller 3x3 covered bed beside the first one.

Lettuce and radishes planted in here. Notice the bricks to hold it down. Added them on other greenhouse too..

I also put in cucumbers and spinach and herbs in the prior greenhouse, and have added plant cages and trellis material to allow the cucumber plants to grow “up” instead of out.

Trying a variety of trellis types. The taller plants are the cucumbers.

On the left bay you see more cucumbers and lots of herbs — I love basil, and harvested a couple cups of fresh leaves today and have it simmering in a pot of pasta sauce.. Yummy time coming.

This is a close-up of the trellis system that should give the cucumbers a place to hang.

Oh, you did notice the bricks all around to hold down against the winds? And you may see something lurking in background of the picture?

Well, yesterday, my brother Bill stopped by, and I roped him into helping me put up this greenhouse. It is 6.5 foot tall down the center, and was a bit unwieldy trying to get the parts and pieces together. His help was welcomed… (Thanks, bro..)

Note the tie downs on the corners — reused same posts for the bigger one.

The “Floor” is just landscaping fabric to kill the grass. The door is zippered, and is rolled up in this picture. I can walk in without ducking (yeah, I’m short).

We lifted it up after building it, and placed it with that raised bed in the corner. Plenty of room to get to it.

This bed has lettuce and beans. The netting will hopefully allow the beans to be above the lettuce. You can see the “patches” on the side walls. Those are windows, with screening, to allow breezes through.

The door is down, but unzipped. Allow a breeze, but maybe keep out a few bugs. You can see the posts and the tie downs better with this picture.

Also set up a couple of compost bins for creating organic material for next year.

Two types of bins. The one on the left can be made much larger in diameter, but is only about 2/3rds full. The other allows for easy rolling / mixing. Have to see which works best.

I did have Home Depot deliver more of those landscaping / edging blocks when they brought the bricks. Used them to raise the fire pit one more row. Worked well with leave burning.

Seeing how high the flames got, I’ve ordered a grill/grid to set on top to prevent burning leaves from floating away.

30 minutes later, most has burned down and is gone.

I used some of those blocks to finish edging around the deck. Makes it much easier to mow and edge. And looks decent too.

Some of the bricks got used in front of the doors of the outbuilding. Easier to roll mower and such, over them to get in building, than it was with the stones.

That’s about it for now. Please ignore any typos or strange keystrokes in this post — I had help most of the time.

She will step on keyboard and change screens while I work. But that’s okay. I need to be interrupted some times…
