New Addition -- 07-23-2020

Howdy all.

As promised, my “new addition” post. I would like you all to meet Kitty. Yes, that is the name she already had. Shoot, as I was picking her up, I heard a young lady mention she just named one of the puppies she had in the car, “Cat”, because the mother’s name was Stevie, and all the puppies got “Steve” related names.

Anyway, Kitty is about 4 1/2 years old, and is a beautiful gray/white Domestic short hair mix. The Lake County Humane Society lists her as being “a bit shy and nervous at first when meeting new people and with new surroundings“. So, I was concerned that not having an intro meeting might be an issue. But, they go with a Foster for a week, then adopt plan, during the pandemic. So, I picked her up today as a foster. I was concerned about how she’d adjust to the new, big house and they suggested setting up a single room for a few days. So, she is in the “guest” bedroom. Seems logical.

Just opened the cage and expected her to bolt for somewhere to hide.

She wasn’t the least bit skittish. She came out of the carrier a little cautiously while I was standing there.

Hey, this “floor” is soft — yep, it is the bed.

She then checked out the bed.

Tried out the carpet for smell.

Sniffed the litter box when she went by. Hopefully it was up to her expectations. A much nicer setup awaits her downstairs in a few days. She then checked out the toys and some places to hide / relax by the window.

Wasn’t too impressed with the toys, but sniffed each one.

And she even stopped for a sip of water and a nibble of the food. I think she just wanted to make sure that’s what it was.

You can see my leg in this picture. She never worried about me.

For now, I’ll giver her a couple more hours to get comfortable that nobody is going to hurt her. She didn’t seem the least concerned that I was in the room. She’d walk within inches of me, and didn’t flee when I scratched her head.

But for the evening, I’ll go up in a couple of hours and give her some “Feast” food, and some more talk time, and then won’t bother her until the morning.

I’m hoping to open the entire upstairs to her by Saturday morning, and then the whole house by Sunday/Monday. We will see.

I am hoping within a few days, she’ll be able to

Enjoy Life.
