Life's little victories
Howdy all,
First a health update. Slowly improving. If I’d stop running around and going outside into the cold air, and rest a bit, I think I’d improve much more quickly.
But, this household is a total disaster. Well, not completely true now. Sure was true on Friday and Saturday.. The furniture delivery was a cluster duck-fest. The driver was, um, less than not so bright. And very annoying, confrontational, a liar, quite lazy, and I believe those were his best attributes.
Any good things I said about Mayflower moving down in Florida, was more than undone by what they did up here after pulling the $$$ from the credit card. As I said the mover was an arse. The two fellows from up here that were helping the unloading on Friday, tried their best to overcome his crap, but it wasn’t possible.
Not much ended up in the rooms it should have, and worse, when the un-packers came the next day (yes, I had to call and complain to the “moving coordinator” that there were no un-packers.— and her response was the driver was responsible for setting that up — she needs a new job too), items had been packed together that just made no sense. Kitchen items in bathroom boxes. Food in garage boxes, and worse.
So, every trip I make up the stairs, since then, I carry things up to bedrooms/baths that belong up there, and then bring down items that belong here.
Oh, did I mention, to them, unpacking means dumping most stuff on the floor, or any surface they can see. And as for re-assembling the stuff the MayFlower team ripped apart in Florida, very little attempt was made to even get the pieces in the same rooms. UGH.
At least the appliance delivery on Saturday went better. WRONG. Seems they won’t add an extension hose to the DishWasher, and the one I selected doesn’t come with one long enough. It had to go back and I had to go to store to select a different one and pay for it, while hoping they will eventually contacting me to reverse the charges for the first one. And, they found a minor drip in the water line behind the fridge. So, I had to get a plumber to fix that. But, the plumber isn’t allowed to hook up the line to the fridge, or my warranty is voided!! Now it won’t have water/ice until 3/25 — they only come to this area on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and that was the first opening. The new dishwasher may get installed then.
I have made some progress though. My Brother, Bill, has been over a lot to help coordinate some of these things, and help me get to places I need to so I can accomplish things. He has also led the assembly of may shelves/dressers/etc so I can gain storage. Without his help I’d have given up and just left this place and drove back to Florida. He has also made trips to the recycle and dump to get rid of piles and piles of cardboard.
Today they delivered the mattress/foundation of my Avocado bed. They state “Full installation” online. Um, no. Since the bed frame was delivered by FedEx, and the rest by the independent company, they can’t assemble the bed frame before putting the rest of the bed together. I had to negotiate “a tip” to get them to put the foundation/mattress on the bed frame.
Tomorrow Bill may come over to pick up a truck load of items that I should never have brought along — just not enough room. His daughter-in-law is going to get first pick to see if there are items she wants for her family, or wants to eBay sell, or donate. I just need them out of the family room so I can try to clear this area too.
I have go my bedroom to the point where it is clear enough to vacuum the floor. Livable. The guest bedroom got vacuumed too. TVs need to be hooked up in both, but I’ll do that sometime soon. My bathroom is also livable and just needs some organizing.
There are drapes up on 6 or more windows now. Another few months and it may be a messy home instead of a dump.
I did “cook” breakfast a couple times now. Even made some really bad soup for dinner today. I am getting there. Just taking way too much time. And I need to a bunch of administrative type things yet to become a “resident” of Ohio. Need my first utility bill to take to the DMV to get that stuff started. I’m sure it will be a nice large one considering how often the doors are open while the furnace is running.
For now, I am tired and still feeling a tad under the normal.
But I hope you can
Enjoy Life.
