Life of a hacker?

Howdy.   OMG, everything went horribly wrong with moving in, for the most part.

I'll start with I am still hacking.  At this point I'm coughing up my old T.B. germs for sure.   No, not COVID-19.  Just plain old cold, with a touch of bronchitis by now -- my normal.  I haven't been able to create any notes higher than deep baritone for most of the last week.  I'll hit a clinic by Monday, if the tide doesn't turn.  Occasionally in the middle of the night, things seem a bit better, than a couple hours later I'm back to bad.

So, anything I'm doing is harder to do and more aggravating.

Which brings me to the closing -- or the non-closing, as they do up here.  It was supposedly to be a key exchange from the realtor to me early in the day.  Um, the hotel kicked me out just before 11 am so they could set up for next guest.  For the next 4 hours or so I was in my truck or in a store (to get warm) constantly trying to make it happen.

First, my realtor is also sick, and at home, so she couldn't give me the key.  So she needed the seller's realtor's permission to give me the key-lockbox combination.   Well, they didn't want to do that until the title had been filed.  (Basically making it impossible for me to back out -- I'll get back to that later).

Oh, they hadn't planned on filing until end-of-day -- which would have meant the actual county record updates would have been done the next day..

They finally conceded I could get in the house, and they'd file "immediately"..

I get to open lockbox, and get key and enter the filth-pit.  I swear it was 10 times dirtier than 3 days earlier.  And I could see almost every window treatment was gone.  Shoot they took the toilet paper holder for the bathroom.

And, to prevent me from doing cleaning, the water was off.  SOB..  So, I called up the water department that had been worked with through the McDowell Homes Moving Concierge service.    Um, we don't handle Madison Township, you want this company -- WTF, then why did you set up my service account.  "Oh, we wouldn't have done that, you must be mistaken."  Yeah, the email I have must be a fake.  Whatever.

Onto the "correct" utility company.   Well, and about now I was wishing this place had a well, they won't create an account for me until the title is in my name -- HUH???  It hasn't been filed yet.  It is now around 3:30 or so, and guess what the chances are I'll get service today?  Actually not that bad.

After going back to my realtor, who went to the seller's realtor, they filed.  And I'm back on the phone with the Lake County utilities.

Um, it isn't in the online records yet.  Won't be until batch runs overnight.  PLEASE!!!!!  They went and checked manually and were willing to give me an account -- BTW, how does this crap normally ever go smoothly since the filing always has a day delay, and obviously you can't do this weeks ahead --- based upon rules given to ME..

And for the low, low, penalty of $85, they sent somebody out to turn it back on by 6 ish.

During the time waiting, I started looking around. Even though it was in the contract that they were to remove the microwave and dishwasher, they were still here.  However, the washer/drier weren't on the remove list, and they were gone.  No problems there, I had already ordered new of all and included removal with installation.  At least I got that right.

Oh, there also was no trash can.  They do the one big can a week with Waste Management, and the can comes with the service.  Had to call WM and get set up for waste -- um, wasn't that something McDowell Homes Moving Concierge service said they did??  Anyway, I now will get both the regular can and a recycling can  (you PAY to recycle here???) and a quarterly bill of $101 plus $55 for setup.  Lovely.

Back to looking around.  Remember I feel like the trash that has no can to live in.  I couldn't do this cleanup.  Asked Realtor for help finding crew that could show up next day.  She didn't have luck with house-cleaners, but suggested Stanley Steemer for carpets.  They were available and scheduled for Wednesday.  My brother had some house keeping names from Nextdoor.com.  I tried one, and Maid-2-Clean rescheduled to give this place a 4 hour, 2-cleaners, as good as they could in the time-frame, cleaning on Wednesday.  I now have her on my schedule for every other Friday, to make it better and keep it that way.

In addition, Spectrum was here on Wednesday, with the carpet and house cleaners.  I now have 100 MB cable internet, and VOIP -- I have a 440 area-code now, along with my cell -- and I can pretty much cancel my Verizon MiFi.

TV is questionable at moment.  The boxes and cables are all on the floor waiting for my furniture to arrive so I can hook them up.

I think I have an Alexa Echo in one of my travel bags, I may try to find it and see if she works.  I already tossed on my Google Wifi mesh network, and this laptop is using same SSID it did in Florida, so Alexa should work too.

Furniture is to be here on Friday morning at 8 am.  The driver took a week to get up here and did NOT keep in touch with MayFlower along the way.  They finally got a hold of him yesterday and he called to confirm for Friday.

The appliances all arrive for install on Saturday.  That should be more fun.

Lots of little things, like bathroom stuff, and curtains, and other things I was, and wasn't expecting to need, are ordered via Amazon and will be sporadically arriving over the next week.

Still need plenty of garage shelving and lawn mower and snow removal and just way too much to do.

There's the update.
