How Cold will it be?

Howdy,

The HVAC guys were here at 9:00 am this morning (4/21/2020). Ripping out the old furnace/AC only took a couple of hours. And oh my, the filter I just put in last week was already furry gray with dust, and even worse were the coils inside. Crud covered would be a nice way of putting it.

The filter was pure white when it went in a week ago…

This is one side of the coils. The other is just as bad.

So, for all of those people wondering why I was throwing away money to replace a perfectly “working” furnace, um, maybe because it wasn’t working so well… The guy removing it said he was surprised it hadn’t shut down because of the minimized air flow.

Sadly, vent cleaning is considered a nonessential business at the moment. I bet if the governor was living with this blowing into his lungs each day, he’d change his mind. Anyway, I’ll have to wait for a month or three to get the vents cleaned. And likely will burn through a couple of filters. I expect with the new furnace not being clogged up so much, it will be blowing a lot of ick out the vents over the next few weeks. My 4 air purifiers will be working double time to try and keep up.

As I mentioned, removing the old only took a couple of hours. However, installing the new is a 2 day job. They have the units in, but the “plumbing” isn’t complete. And the installation of the Arzel zoning dampers and some of the final electrical connectivity is not started. They will be back at it tomorrow at 8:30 am.

For tonight, this place is being heated by 3 1500 watt space heaters (1 mine, 2 theirs). Surprisingly, my 1500 watt heater ( https://amzn.to/3cAQGw5 — on sale for only $79 instead of normal $199 ), managed to keep this place from going cold in the sunshine today. Temperatures started in low 40s, and it is 37 outside as I write this at 7 pm. The overnight low is expected to drop to 27 degrees Fahrenheit. I didn’t think a single heater could hold both floors at a reasonable temp, through the night.

So they added their two of these lifesmart type ( https://amzn.to/3eE5093 ) infrared heaters.

We will see how low it goes in here.

Shoot, at the moment, both were set to 71 and have turned off. Must be 71 in here. Feels cooler.

That’s all for now.

Enjoy Life
