Got down to 28 by this morning -- 04-22-2021

So, baby it was cold out there.

And the snow yesterday isn’t completely gone, but almost. Just a little in the shaded areas.

Supposedly it is around 39 right now. I went out to do a post-freeze check. The berry bushes survived a couple of days covered in the dark. They don’t look quite as happy as before, but still alive.

I expect them to come back strong.

The outside cucumbers in the fabric planters, were covered in nice little “greenhouse” tents. I really thought they’d do better. Still alive, but not so much thriving as surviving. I have better versions in the house which I may put out there.

Not so happy cukes.

Not so happy cukes.

On the other hand, the onions all seem to have grown over the last couple of days.

This is inside a mini greenhouse structure — the potatoes in the lighter green fabric pots haven’t sprouted out of the ground yet. So nothing to shoot.

Inside the greenhouse, I was expecting all to be good. And it was. The temperature inside there was 76 compared to the 38-39 outside this morning. And the ground temp in the beds was still just short of 50. I’m glad I didn’t go in to peak prior to now.

This is the bed with more onions and two types of cucumbers (and maybe some carrots!?!). The cukes are just now sprouting up and can be seen. Those onion shoots are beginning to look tasty…

No harm here.

No harm here.

Tomatoes are looking better than ever. As are the pepper plants.

Go tomatoes!!

Go tomatoes!!

Not a lot of growth, but surviving for sure — still need to pick the winners and thin the rest out.

And that leaves the basil/spinach/radishes. No problem with them yet. Other than that moss — ugh, that is everywhere around this house.

There are a couple tiny pea/bean plants popping up now on the top/bottom of the radish row. Maybe they’ll take off soon.

So it looks like most of the plants survived this round. And, if they Enjoy Life, I might just get to Enjoy them too.
