Day +1 --Retirement is painful.

Howdy all,

First thing, I want to thank everybody for all the congrats and good wishes for my retirement. They were really appreciated.

Second item, I’ll be dropping the “Day +#” since I hope it will someday be difficult to figure out how many days it has been since I retired.

Now, about the title of this blog post, I’ve been emptying out my office for the last couple of weeks, and also doing more de-cluttering around the house in preparation of selling. The bins were piling up. Today I got them to the storage unit.

These bins/packages are from my computer room at home, the guest closet (holiday storage central), photo studio stands and such, or from work stuff I plan to use at home in the future — wherever that is?

I was sore before I started moving them into the truck today, and now, I’m one solid achy pile of sore goo. I’m too old for this sheeeeet…

Tomorrow, I will be clearing the walls of photos and other hanging crap, and boxing them. If I can, I’ll put them in bins too. They stack well and don’t crush like cardboard.

This retirement transition is strange in ways I hadn’t thought of before coming home at 11 on Friday.

And very weird.  It's the little things.  Like doing laundry.  Yes, I know it was just leaving early, but it was knowing I wasn't going back.  I have forced myself into habits over the years to accommodate my ADD.  One is to do laundry when you get home on Friday, and then, pull all of the clothes you will need for the next work week out of the "next" set of drawers, and put the clean stuff into them.  (and then leave the drawer after those ajar for the next time).    -- Um, there is no next week.  Now what??  I'm likely to be wearing these shorts and shirt for the next month!!

Then, it took close to 4 hours to get the Office out of my iPhone, and off my home computer.  I still can't get icloud calendar to work across everything.  I set up Outlook using my yahoo stuff and OneCloud for data storage, but the iPhone doesn't like OneCloud.  The two operating systems just don't want to play well, regardless which I chose.

And, today is my "normal" day to go to the grocery for the week.  That's going to be another bit of adjusting.  Shoot, I could do that on Tuesday afternoon one week, and Thursday the next. I need to establish new habits in many ways.

I'm getting closer to not "needing" to do stuff, and doing what I want to, but that is months away, after the relocation work is done.

But for today, I need to sit back and relax a bit and let the Ben Gay/Absorbine Junior/Traumeel mixture of pain relief lotions work some magic.

Enjoy life.
