Day -215 -- Pimp my truckbed

So, now that I have MFT (My Forever Truck), it was time to get it ready to handle the things I want it to be able to do. That means, I’ve added lockable storage and protection.

First step was a Tonneau cover, to keep the rain out, and also the thieves of convenience. I prefer the roll-up type because they take up less room when not in use.

Here it is installed:

Next a couple of side wall, over the wheel well, lockable storage for the stuff that would normally be rolling around the bed. These can easily be swung out for getting to the contents, and can be removed if carrying larger loads. Installing them required removing the tail-light assembly on each side. That was a bit worrisome for a non-mechanical person like myself. But it went smoothly — well the second one did.

Both storage bins swung out for visibility to the viewer.

I then added a couple of lockable tie-down hooks to the front of the bed, and added my adjustable winch brace pole, up there too.

The final addition was a tailgate ladder for short people (ME!!!) to be able to get into the bed.

And this is what we have:

Hmm, I should have blown out all of the dust prior to taking the picture — but I was tired.

If you look to the front of the bed you can see the blue end of the brace pole, and above that, the lockable tie-down. And I swung out one of the side storage bins and opened it up to give an idea just how much storage it can hold.

Notice how little space the Tonneau cover takes when it is rolled up to the front.

Total time do do everything… Per YouTube videos would be about 4 hours max. For me, about 8 hours.. The hardest part was getting up and down into the truck bed — I should have done the ladder first!!

I did my first fill-up with gas this morning. Only took 26 gallons — which is exactly the size of the tank on my prior truck. I am guessing this 36 gallon tank should last me pretty much a month while I am still working.

Today will be pool time.
