03-30-2025 -- 3D printing fun

Howdy all. Rather than doing what I should be doing (organizing in laser room!!), I have been playing on the 3D printers again. I finally got a better version of that lime green cat planter. By playing around with the “overhang” printing speed settings, I got rid of most of the ugly bulging lines under the cat’s chin. Only one line that isn’t that obvious unless you look. So that print is done after about 8 tries!!

I also printed off a couple grasshoppers that have flexible heads and legs. Look cute. Should paint the eyes in, but nah.

Cute little buggies.

Also been printing of desiccant holders for those new AMS 2 Pro units which may be arriving tomorrow. While they have built in drying, they don’t dry while printing. Thus, having desiccant in the units will keep the filament dry during processing. I got one set done overnight — the print takes about 9 hours total. I started a new set this morning. Actually, twice. The first time I hadn’t cleaned the bed enough and the first layer didn’t stick. Spaghetti city. 2nd try is more than half done now at 1 pm.

There is “rafting” underneath the boxes. The small items in front, are slide in tops for the box. And a funnel is printing behind. The middle box has a hole in the middle for a thermometer/hygrometer. Thus, it needs a little tree support to hold up the center of the circular cutout. The tree is easily yanked out cleanly.

I really wish I was upstairs organizing that laser room. The CO2 laser is sitting down here in the living room, in a shipping box. The box is huge, and must weigh 70 pounds. Not going to be fun getting it up the stairs. But it isn’t the first time I’ve moved something like that upstairs. Just no room for it in the laser room at the moment with the mess of re-organizing.

It really is as big as it looks.

Hey, I never mentioned the weather. Yeah, rainy and windy. Temperature is nice today, but will drop to freezing and below late Monday and Tuesday. Lots of rain/snow and winds in 14 day forecast. Just a perfect springtime for the Artic. But, I am trying hard, to Enjoy Life.
