5-29-2022 -- Is this the beginning of summer?

Howdy,

So I have always heard that Memorial Day weekend is the “unofficial” start to summer. We are at that weekend. I must admit that this morning was a tad warmer than lately.. But it was 54 overnight. It helps that I didn’t really get up until close to 8.

The last week has had a few days starting in the 40s. Even that is sooo much better than the 20s that started the month.

The next few days are to be highs in 70s-80ish.. Then back to upper 60s per the pornocast for North Madison. Oh, well. I did come to Ohio!!.

However, even with the cooler (COLD!!!) weather, the garden is really starting to pick up. Even the vining plants are now showing secondary leaves. I may get cucumbers someday. Here are the ones in the greenhouse.

These are ahead of the ones outside, by a 2-3 inches. Yeah, that bad…

Spinach is growing like crazy. I will likely just do one cold frame with it next year. Easier to maintain. The ones in outside beds are constantly needing weeding from tree seeds falling in them. And I’m not wanting to consume a Maple tree with my omelets.

Since this photo, I’ve picked multiple bags of spinach, and many more radishes. Not as fond of the radishes as they get bigger and spicier. Almost out of these, but have a longer, skinnier, variety that is getting close to harvest now.

Tomato plants in greenhouse tent. I have been thinning them for last week or so. They are coming along and have a few blossoms.

More tomato plants in the greenhouse tent. Lots of thinning and in need of some water today.

The garden bed tomatoes also got a good dose of thinning and watering today. I may have spotted one or two blossoms. I’d say they are about a week and a half behind the greenhouse plants.

Just to show some unexpected “good” news, take a gander at this pepper.

Totally missed this up to now. Just about palm of hand sized. Is supposed to go yellow I think. But a surprise for sure. Other blossoms on the plants too.

And the potato plants just keep getting bigger and taller. And now!!!

Yep, potato plant flowers. They’re actually pretty to see. Hope what is happening underground will be just as nice.

Other plants are blossoming too. Ones that I expected to do so. The pansies and other flowers that I put out front, managed to survive all the cold weather and are bouncing back in full color.

Adds some color to the black mulch around the house.

Perty colors!!

Facing the morning sunshine.

The little yellow rose bush, on the north side of the entrance, is not doing so great yet. The leaves are coming out stunted, but are finally popping out.

The red rose bush on the south side of the entrance, just started popping out flowers two-three days ago. Here are a couple.

Barely opened bud.

Fully opened. Looks great.

I can’t wait until the bush is full of roses again.

Otherwise, not much happening this last 2 weeks. I’ve been bored with the weather, and Kitty has been becoming more kitty-like. Playing a little now, and wants me to be opening the windows for her to watch the critters. Fortunately, other than a few ants, this is the only critter she has faced in the house.

And she wasn’t very concerned.

So, if this is summer, it is time to

Enjoy Life.
